About Me

I’m Trent Sizemore, a full-time wildlife photographer based out of West Yellowstone, Montana. I created Wildlife Letters to share the things I see in the field with others, in a screen-free format. The ultimate goal is to inspire kids to pursue their own wildlife-related conservation work or careers, but the letters can be enjoyed by anyone!

I moved from Georgia to Montana in 2014, taking a seasonal job in Grand Teton National Park to get my foot in the door out west. I eventually moved to West Yellowstone later that year, finding a more permanent job in town. With steady income and housing, I was able to explore the park and learn the ropes during my free time. In 2017, I started offering guided photography trips to teach other photographers how to find and photograph all the great wildlife we have. Yellowstone is a huge park, and it's not always easy to find animals (expect maybe for bison). Since then, I've been fully self-employed as a photographer! You can follow my photography on Facebook.

Creating the Letters

The content in each letter comes from firsthand experience and research with the animals I've personally seen. An archive of many photos of different animals is used to find the perfect fit that works well with text on a page. I have a Bachelor's degree in Art, with a focus on photography and graphic design both. Each letter is designed and created by me, without any use of AI. All of the photographs are mine, of real animals I've seen over the years. I create each page with a combination of Adobe Fresco, Photoshop, and InDesign for the final layout and export.

I started out printing each letter and insert myself, but it was getting to be too long and tedious of a process without a large commercial printer. I now send my finished files to a trusted company to print each piece on high quality paper. I also started out addressing, stuffing, and stamping each envelope, with help from my wife, and sometimes our son Hayden! I'm now using our local print shop in town, who has the ability to send out bulk mailings at a much lower price.

Because this process from creation to mailing takes a lot of coordination and timing, and I'm still working full time as a photographer and guide in Yellowstone, these mailings all go out around the same time each month.

If you visit Yellowstone and see me out there, feel free to say hi! I will have the letters available at the weekly market on Thursday afternoons in West Yellowstone, next to the visitors center.
